Jesus Camp

I saw the most disturbing movie on the biography channel. You have to see it to believe it. Do you believe that this is child abuse? It could even fall under the definition of Brainwashing. Kids this age should be care free, they are killing their spirit.

It's interesting to me that we criticize other countries for doing this to their children, but when we do it, it is supposed to be praised.

What are your thoughts? PLEASE SHARE

This was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. I could not imagine having to have a conversation with one of these freaks. Not the kids, but the adults who teach or instill this crap. I am sure it would be a one-sided conversations, in that these religious zealots are so narrow-minded they are not willing to listen to alternative explanations or views. My contention is that religion breeds intolerance. It is my experience that the more religious one is, the less apt they are to listen and accept others who may be different from them. I am not an athiest by any means, but I just feel that religion is tainted and corrupted at it's core when hijacked by institutional bureaucracy. Don't mean to offend these are just my thoughts. However, I am always willing to listen to the other side, unlike the camp counselors at this Jesus camp/cult.

Thanks for your comment Brandon. I totally agree with you. Coming from a very strict and judgemental religious background, I can say from experience that it does breed intolerance. I can't imagine ever exposing my children to this kind of extremism. We are a religion free household, there is a big difference between being spiritual and religious. You don't have to apologize for offending, you are just being honest. That's what I like about you.

Where do you find in this country that this type of behavior is praised?

BC- Have you ever been to SW Missouri? That is where a number of these kids are from, and as a former resident of Springfield, I can attest to the fact that it is praised in the religious community.

You are correct that this type of behavior exists and in some cases, is praised. However, you make the motion that our society "as a whole" praises this type of behavior within the confines of the Christian faith, but finds it to be intolerable in other religions throughout the world. I think that is a little misleading. I would also refute the idea that religion is generally intolerant. Because someone's core values differ, does not mean they are any less accepting -- they just diagree.

BC- It was not my intention to infer that our society as a whole praises these actions, I know that isn't true. And I didn't make mention of the Christian faith being the only one to act in this way. There are plenty of others that do as well. My point is merely that we have criticized other religions in other countries, who "train" their youth to hate others, and this woman is doing the same.

From my experience, people who are extremely religious typically are less tolerant than those who are not. But, that is just my opinion, man:)
