So, I've been thinking about this for a while and need to get it off of my chest. It's called the wave, a simple common courtsey.
Here's the scenario: Typically when driving, if I notice someone who needs to switch lanes, I let them over. In return, I only expect an acknowledgement, this acknowledgement usually comes in the form of a wave. But, I am finding out that this is too much to ask of my fellow commuters.
My mornings generally start out well -I'm in a good mood, listening to music or talk radio and I see a desperate soul that needs to switch lanes. As have been that desperate soul many times,I do my good deed for the day and let them over. I wait..and wait - no wave. What? No wave? How rude. So I vow in my frusturation that I will never be duped again. Then, I find myself turning to the dark side. I may shake my head feverishly so that they see their wrongdoing, or (here's where it gets bad) I start to tail them. As I succumb to their rudeness, I loose all sense of dignity and become one of them.
But the next day, I try to restore my faith in humankind and once again am let down. What has happened to us, why are we so relectuant to show a little gratitude? In the state of the world, a little kindness can go a long way.
I have noticed some common offenders and will list the top 5: ***EDIT*** Please note, these are only my observations
1. People who drive hummers- the number one offender
2. Soccermoms- you know the type
3. Corporate Americans- these can be spotted by their well groomed hair and designer suits
4. People with huge trucks, gun racks and the American flag on the back windshield (where is the patriotism?)
5. Finally, cell phone users. (I will admit that I do talk on the cell phone when driving, but I am always aware of my surroundings- especially when someone throws me a bone)
So there it is, my rant- please share if you have any ideas on how we can stop the madness and restore mankind.

good post Tricia and all valid points. If someone offends me while driving, I like to give a good sarcastic thumbs up. This usually will do the trick and get your point across.
Every single thing in this post has gone through my head while driving to/from work. It was like you read my mind.
